I read the series umpteen times as a boy, probably between the ages
of 8 and 13, I don't even know when, and then rediscovered the
series about 6 years ago as an adult.

None of the violence ever bothered me either, they're just books
after all, and frankly quite mild books compared to some of the
other stuff I've read. (Think of how often Tom Swift Jr, or
Frank and Joe Hardy got into serious fisticuffs)

But confession time. I have to admit that when I was a child I
never EVER remember knowing that Peter Duck or Missee Lee were
"made-up" books by the S&A. Never. Ever. I keep reading all
these people here on tarboard talking about how they new that
those were 'fake' and so on and so forth, and then get into these
discussions about Great Northern. Well enough, I had to speak
up. I bet that there are many others like myself who as children
were just caught up in the love of the series and barely had
enough time to come up for air every now and then (and perhaps a
meal foisted on us by our own beloved Natives) let alone have
time to step back and think objectively about the series.
Maybe it was partly because I read the books entirely on my own,
and never read them with a parent.

Anywho,
Happy Christmas, one and all
