i'm trying this reply for the third time in two days, for some reason even though i got the confirmation page the second time yesterday it still hasn't reached the tarboard. the gist of what i posted was; that the rl stiens of the world are glossy hitech well marketed and possess unbelievable - to us of the non tie in generation - tv and webb tie ins including their own series. i believe that the old masters like ar and csl and even jrrt who was never really a children's author and whose books tend to be a college or high school discovery here in north america, don't benefit from this kind of exposure. add to that the fact that the modern "experts" on children's work tend to be highly politically correct and bent on producing ever younger mini adults with very little in the way of a child's naturall experimentation and imagination and i think hthere are valid reasons why the old master's are falling off and the ones who survive do so mainly in "disney-ized balderizations. i definately feel that the only way to get these books out to the very children who would enjoy them - in my experience any child over the age of 10 who can read on their own, is to get the videos broadcast on cable or satellite tv in north america and on public broadcasting elsewhere or ge a groundswell going on the wdmtgts movie. the other possible metheod is to expose ar as being terribly politically incorrect; children having fun on their own without parental or state supervision and control, lawbreaking, having fun in a dangerous area - water & mountains - without proper safety gear, ....
then maybe the kids would start a real childrens demand and we could see the books being sold at the 7-11's and walmarts of the world where the majority of parents seem to shop these days. or maybe i'm just being to radical. happy new year to all.
