I absolutely agree. I talk on Writer'swrite, a literature and writer,s board, regularly, and never have any of the people I've talked to heard of either Arthur Ransome or S&A. This is people from the US, UK and Europe. I live in NZ and have also met few Ransome devotees. Very sad. My children didn't take to Ransome either and both are very literate. My guess is that less youth adventures were available thirty or more years ago, and also children were in to what they might do. Now its what others can do, thus the great enthusiasm for Sci-fi etc.
