Of course, pleasant diversions were at the bottom of the priority list for dealing
with Y2K problems on the part of the many thousands of IT people who were struggling
with it all (and after all mostly weren't being paid to deal with such things). I'm
referring to Ian -- one assumes the admin folk at the University were being paid to deal
with such things -- but I bet they did their administrative systems even if they overlooked
this one.
