Dave - surprisingly 'Winter Holiday' offers more scope for murkiness. E.g. on p. 60:

And in view of the suggestion in Message 4304, I note, in WH p. 109:
'A queer figure was leaning over the banisters'.
Well, the figure was Nancy, but on the other hand what were the 'queer paperweights' referred to on p. 108? I think I have heard of such things being made in Berlin once, but, er, perhaps one shouldn't enquire any further.
