I'd forgotten all about Tarboard, but PW told me about this correspondence and I couldn't resist it...
I started to write a sequel about 5 years ago, based on my own children taking up threads from various books they had read. Not a sequel in the true sense but a follow on. It didn't work, and I left it after a few chapters.
I'd love to write a spoof-style sequel in the style of Tom Sharpe - Nancy has grown up and is at loggerheads with the Walkers, this time the crossbow is for real... Meanwhile at the TARS year 2000 do, a bonfire is being constructed at Bank Ground and a fierce argument rages as to which TARS member, or former member should be burned in effigy. A raiding party creeps through the woods intent on kidnapping the chairman and leaving him/ her stark naked and tied to the front-door handle of the Chairman of the Foundation that owns the Coniston mooring rights, before ringing his doorbell and running away...
Unfortunately, I don't think that I could afford the ensuing law suits. Speaking of which, I'm sure that you've done the right thing in sending your sequel to the current publishers - if they like it enough, then they must be the ones to find a way around the obstacles if anyone can...
Cheers,
Andy Morley
