However, I don't think that AR 'enchanced the level' of Pull Beck.
With the effect of modern fertilizers accelerating plant growth
Octapus Lagoon could easily really have been just as described in
SA in AR's day (boyhood?). This process of water gradually turning
into land can also be observed in some of the Norfolk Broads. If
Windmere has been "dropped" about a foot because of water extraction
or as flood prevention measure, the process would have been
accelerated.

There are stiil a few distant lands where AR's books are unkown.
For those of us living in such places it would be fascinating if
your article (and the contributions of others) on the origins of
the Amazons could appear somewhere on the Arthur Ransome pages.
