Coniston Water - water height

The original thread seems to have got lost in a different discussion so forgive me for re-starting it!

In response to Ian:
All the dam would have done was stop the lake falling to the low level it can now reach in times of drought. It would have had little effect on the lake level at other times.

In response to Jock:
There was a move a year or two back by the Coniston water association to restore the dam, but it met with vociferous opposotion from the farming community and would have entailed a lengthy and potentially acrimonious public enquiry. The idea was, quite rightly, dropped. Mind you it would have helped me . . .

Just in case people do not know the area very well this (if it works!) is Lake bank jetty at the very foot of Coniston Water:

with the water at about mean height!
