Off the top of my head I came up with these:
Character studies
Place studies
Diaries
Dialogues
Key words
Unusual words
Variations on what really happened
Other tacks characters could have taken
Letters, apologies etc
Reflections
Writing themselves into a scene
Descriptions - such as how to put up a tent...
The list goes on!
Lists(what is needed for a camping holiday)
Knots - describing how to tie them
Stargazing - what is in the S&A night sky versus what is in their own
Fishing and recipes for cooking fish
Sounds the S&A would hear(on the island, in the boats, in the mine...)
Hope this is a start...
