My apologies to Nan and the rest of the company for getting everybody
started again on something that evidently has already been worked over
on this board. To tidy it all up, let's say I would appreciate informa-
tion on three areas:

(1) The arguments for the "unreality" of GN seem to turn on something to
do with shooting and something else to do with holidays. I don't under-
stand either of these, and Hardyment, if she mentions them at all, certainly
didn't enlighten me. Could some patient soul set these out for me clearly
and coherently. If this is the material that is old hat on this board
then send it to me privately.

(2) How old is the idea that GN is "unreal"? Does anyone recall having
heard of it prior to the publication of Captain Flint's Trunk?

(3) I'm surprised how little interest is shown in the precise location
of GN. The sites in Cumbria are virtually holy shrines, and passionate
arguments take place as to the proper location of Beckfoot lawn, Octopus
Lagoon, etc.etc. East Anglia is a bit more cut and dried, though I gather
we are still searching for the Roaring Donkey. Now Dave Thewlis assures
me that he knows the location of GN but doesn't have his notes to hand.
I would dearly love to have this information from Dave or from anyone.
I'll go there all alone while the rest of you are cruising Coniston!
