It's not quite too late for me to improve or correct my bibliography, as it hasn't gone to press yet -- I'm waiting for copyright page information from my publisher.

It's my understanding, after e-mails today with Jon and with Robert Thompson, that the painter was omitted from the picture "On the Way to the Islands" in the 1st printing of SW (1939), and in the 10th printing (1946). It's also absent in the first reset 1947 printing. However, I gather that at least one Jonathan Cape printing before the 1947 resetting _has_ the painter in the picture. This question has been raised before on TarBoard, though not for a couple of years, and I'd like to raise it again, so that I get the point straight in my bibliography. Does anyone have a copy of the Jonathan Cape edition of SW, from before the resetting of 1947, that is any copy of the first eleven printings (1939-1947), in which the painter is _present_, and if so, which printing? (Note that in some years SW had more than one printing, so it would be useful to know not only the year but also which printing of that year.)

Thanks,

Wayne
