_Hirondelles et Amazones_ was first published in France by F. Aubier, Paris, in 1934. The same translation was then republished in 1945 in the series Robert is referring to, by G.-T. Rageot. According to _Publishers Weekly_, Rageot surreptitiously printed 2,000 copies during the German occupation, and another 10,000 early in 1945, and as soon as France was liberated he reported a royalty of 2,000 francs due to Ransome!

Two works by Ransome were published in France, in translation, still earlier: _Oscar Wilde_ in 1914 (Paris: Mercure de France) and _Six semaines en Russie en 1919_ in 1919 (Paris: Editions de L'Humanite).
