Simon is probably right. The treasure has long since gone!
The colour map on Despatches was once owned by 'Dorothea's' parents. Both the treasure mark and dark stripe (an old fold) were on the 'hit list' when Johnston brought Despatches over for final sprucing up and
printing, but got omitted in the rush.
I suspect it may be where Dot's APs stayed on one occasion when Mrs Dixon was full :-)
