I feel like a Bond villain cruising in my (engined — sorry!) boat Dragonfly on the Bridgewater Canal. Must borrow next-door's Persian cat and have it on my knee as I sit at the wheel.

David Chorley — I saw Henry Dimbleby mentioned quite recently. He's a marketing executive now, or something like that. Apparently he was the only young'un in Swallows and Amazons For Ever who had actually done any boating. I thought he was good — just as I pictured Tom Dudgeon to be.

Any Tarboarders ever meet Arthur? When I was a lad, he was my favourite. I would love to have spoken to him, but imagined that celebrated authors, canons, commodores and the like all lived darn sarf in the Home Counties. Little did I know that as I was doing my O-Levels, in June 67, Arthur was nearing his end just a few minutes down the road from me in Cheadle Royal Hospital.

Peter Willis. Am currently reading Borrowed Time by Robert Goddard. Have read a couple of his books. Very enjoyable.
