I tend to be tolerant of child actors, because casting children must be a nightmare. The priority is probably to get someone who can deliver the lines unselfconsciously and without monotony or stumbling. The correct comparative heights can't be guaranteed! However, there is no such excuse with regard to adult actors. It is generally agreed that casting Ronald Fraser was a huge mistake. There were loads of suitable alternatives at the time - Joss Ackland comes to mind, for instance.
