Fellow Tarboarders may enjoy the following Bibliofind ad. for The Picts and the Martyrs by a bookseller for whom the book (or its first chapter at least) was evidently a new experience:

This book is a children's book. It is very different though. The first
chapter has the protagonist in the book Nancy boldly stating that the flag of scull and
cross bones mean Leporsy and and Disease. Nancy had read this in her books. Nancy
is very bookish and curiuous. Nancy describes to the cook that the picture of the beetle
is from ancient Egypt. The cook thinks it is a bug. The Sketches are great. This book is
super for a bookish, curious girl.
