I noticed this same similarity and posted about it last year sometime.
I agree, there is a bit of a parallel, and yes, Lewis would have been
aware of Ransome's work. It would be interesting to know to what extent
Lewis had read Ransome.
Susan's fate is the subject of much discussion and debate on the CS Lewis
web site. She becomes too much of a native, it seems.
As to the character named Ransom in the 'Space Trilogy' I suspect that
no connection is intended with the writer Ransome, but rather with the
Redeemer (ransomer), that is, Jesus. Lewis picked a name that was a
fairly ordinary name but also had a meaning beyond merely a surname. I
think that at one point a character (Merlin?) says, "It is not for nothing
(or by accident?) that you were named Ransom."
I'm curious - what philosophy class has assigned The Lion, the Witch, and
the Wardrobe? Are you in high school or college? Feel free to email me
off-board if you like (since this would be getting off-topic).
