TARS might like to know that AR gets three mentions in this core list of books of the century produced by committees of The School Library Association, Youth Libraries Group and The School Libraries Group of The Library Association. The prize winners will be announced at a conference called Under the Covers to be held in London in July. The committees' criteria was "individual books that have had a significant impact on children or on the development of children's literature". Delegates to the conference are also being asked to use the same criteria to choose their books from the core lists or to add their own.

AR gets a mention in the first decade for Old Peter's Russian Tales and in the 1920 - 1939 list for both Swallows & Amazons and Pigeon Post.

It is also heartening that the Daily Mail lists AR in their publicity for their Half-price books for schools campaign "to put reading at the heart of schools". They say "There's a great selection of titles for different age groups by best-selling authors such as David Almond, (a very contemporary writer) Arthur Ransome, Nick Butterworth and Tony Ross. All titles have been selected because they will aid the development of reading skills and encourage the child to read both academically and for pleasure".

So, AR lives on!
