My last posting got the US position over copyright wrong. In brief it is:
1. Anything published before 1923 that is out of copyright remains so
(ie a good deal of early Ransome including Old Peter, but not
Racundra).
2. An extension of 20 years is given to works published in and after 1923:
thus Racundra will according to the present law become public domain
in 2018, Swallows and Amazons in 2025, and so on.
