We have also been discussing Children's Hour, the radio programme for British children in the 1940s and 1950s which featured Toy Town and Jennings. Someone said that Swallows and Amazons was said to have been one of CH's failures. According to the then producer, the author of BALLET SHOES,'Miss [Noel]Streatfeild told me that it was so far removed from the lives of the children of Deptford that they couldn't understand it.' Is this true?
