I totally agree about the gaps:
My main idea for a new book would be Picts and The Martyrs followed by a re-written Coots in the north - D&Gs+Tom go north and when their parents find out give them permission to camp there for 10 days? Meanwhile Nancy+Peggy are alone on the lake with others due soon war between N&P and Coots neither knowing the ID of each other then the Ds turn up at the end to sort every thing out.
Obviously some of the times would have to be changed (Coots in the North is set in October/end of summer) but it could work out very well!
For some reason the Coots find themselves unable to camp around the lake and must camp on Wildcat Island N&P try to kick them off so that when the others turn up the island would be empty!
