I've also often wondered about "what happens next", except - being a child who grew up in the late 60's early 70's - I've often wondered about the S, A & D's *children*. And how they (the originals, not their children) coped with WWII after such great childhoods. So that's really two ideas in one - the now grown up SADs getting together (all of them) for the first time since (PP?) and the different way their children would (want to) spend the hols. I've got some ideas, like (of course) Dot making it as a big romance writer; Susan nursing her future husband in a convalescent home; Nancy falling in love with a Canadian serviceman and running away home to Peggy (who is the only one who hasn't moved on from the lake - she probably marries a local business owner or something) at some point; John of course being a career naval man; etc, etc, etc. I had thought of Roger joining the RAF (because of the engine thing, perhaps) and sadly being the only one who didn't make it home - he'd probably have had to lie about his age! but after learning that the real Roger died in an accident it kind of seems a bit tastless to do this. Trouble is, I can't imagine a grown up Roger! Titty, I think, married the chaplain of a girls' school and probably does something bookish and schoolish - haven't got that far yet. I want to think about Dick a bit more to work out what his *real* scientific strength might be, but he's something scientisty and he's married to a bluestocking. Susan is a wife and mother, quite probably one of the more exciting Guide captains, and Bridgie's got some glamorous profession (NOT supermodel!) that jets her round the world. Her children would be the wildest.

Titty and Dot have disastrously fallen out at some point and part of this reunion (Peggy's idea when Nancy turns up on her doorstep seeking sanctuary) is to get them to work things out, or fight it out or whatever.

All this was prompted by my son saying "Nancy and John fall in love when they get older, don't they?". I don't think they do, but my little idea has John become Nancy's confidante before her Canadian returns and sweeps her (back) off her feet - though nothing physical develops between them.

Their children are more difficult, because at this stage I haven't decided who has children, how many they have and how old they are - but I'm working on it. All this for my own amusement (of course!). Nancy and Titty are the only ones without children, I think, Titty's been trying and wouldn't it be nice if by the end of the story she discovered herself enciente? Nancy and her Canadian have all sorts of problems, decisions about children being one of them, but (I think) it all works out in the end.

Obviously I'd hate it to turn Millsandboonie in my tortured love-starved (not really) mind...

Sorry this is so long for one who hasn't even properly (re-)introduced herself!

Nina
