Ferreting about in the various links associated with A R's web page, I found a reference to Kanchenjunga. I always thought it a bit obscure, in fact A R is about the only ref. to the mountain I've come across. Apparently in the 20's - 30's it had a high profile in the press as several expeditions were attempting to conquer the peak and failing. I think AR was being topical. Don't forget the Blackett's parents named the peak the Matterhorn in Swallowdale, I don't know what state that peak held in the public psyche at the time, why not Eiger or Mont Blanc?

Incidently that touching reference to Nancy and Peggy's missing father opens up a whole field for speculation, I assume the chap was deceased, but in what circumstances? Or has he done a runner? Is there a connection here with A R's own relationship problems?

Any thoughts?
