Not much "may have" about it.

Timothy: "How do the police come into it? Once they're in, you never know where they'll stop."

"What do you know about it?" asked Nancy, "Have you ever been wanted by them before?"

"Only in Peru," said Timothy, "Did your Uncle Jim ever tell you about the time when he and I ... Oh, never mind about that. Go on. What sort of mess are we all in now?

That "Only in Peru" throwaway is one of my favourite lines from Picts & Martyrs. It opens up so much speculation.

Then there's the mystery on just how Billy put his foot through t'spokes of the back wheel of his bike on Saturday night.
