Hmmph. We had an individual here in Humboldt County (far northern California) who
owned a piece of land on which a herons' rookery had long been established. He had the
trees cut down, in fact when eggs and just-hatched birds were still in them, which is
a no-no.
He wound up with at least 6 months in jail and thousands of dollars in fines.
