I have been reading 'Sawllows and Amazons' and 'Peter Duck' to my daughters, Bethany and Bryony (aged 6 and 9) who have enjoyed the adventures enormously. We have now started 'Swallowdale and got to the point where Tity and Roger have discovered Swallowdale, and Peter Duck is introduced as an imaginary friend. In fact, my sister Naomi had just such a friend but with a more imaginary name of 'Birdshouse'!
We are puzzled by the two Peter Duck characters. Have we read the books out of order? It seems that Swallowdale follows exactly a year after S&A. The Peter Duck story fulfils Cptn Flint's promise to take the gang on a sea voyage. Was this Caribean story entirely in Tity's vivid imagination to?
Can anyone explain?
PS. In Wales we missed the channel 4 S&A broadcast. Is it possible to get this on video?
