Regarding "parts per million": I have to stop and think when reading instructions which say "add 2 parts of ingredient x to 3 parts of ingredient y". Does this mean parts by weight or by volume? Different results can sometimes occur (especially in cooking). The definition of milligrams per cubic decimetre, or whatever, does at least have no ambiguity about it.
