In SA and other of the Swallows and Amazon series, Captain Flint's houseboat is credited with flying the old flag of Thailand an Elephant flag, the national flag of Siam.
Is there any mention in his books of AR having visited Siam?
It is quite logical that a boat sailing from Singapore to China would have called at Bangkok on the way.

Maybe he just liked the flag with an animal on it as there are very few flags in the world with animals on them.
