Arhur Ransome certainly had read Erskine Childers. I remember seeing that he had a copy in his library. It would have been well known book among yachtsmen.
On the other hand,it seems unlikely that Arthur Ransome and Childers would have met. Before WW1 AR doesn't seem to have moved in the same Irish Republican circles as Childers and during and after the war he was in Russia and the Baltic and Childers was in the Navy and then Ireland up to his execution by the new Irish government.
