#32 - you are right, Americans are much less accustomed to this. When I was quite newly married,with American husband and 2 teenage American stepchildren, we all happened to be picknicking on the beach at Lepe. In order to bathe I did the obligatory and very modest wriggle with towel etc. to the horrified audience of my stepchildren. "Look what a loose woman you've marrried," they said, only half joking, to my husband.
Anyway, I was the only one prepared to get into the chilly Solent.
