I too am an ignorant Aussie, but I seem to recall that buttered eggs involved melting large amounts of butter in a frying pan and then just cracking the eggs in and stirring them round vigorously until cooked. Scrambled eggs involved mixing the eggs with milk first, before putting them in the pan and then giving them the same treatment.
