One thing Ed forgot to mention. To enjoy grits you must have been brought up eating it. To us yankees (and I barely qualify, living in Southern Indiana) there's almost nothing you can do to grits to make it fit to eat. Although baked in a casserole with sharp cheddar cheese comes awfully close.
