When I spent a few days with a girlfriend and her family in their summer home near Derwentwater in the early 60s, I was issued a torch (flashlight) on going to bed and instructed that if I had to get up in the night (not then something I needed to do) I was NOT to turn on the light switch, as that would start the generator and wake the whole family. I don't have PM to hand (email only in my office) but if Beckfoot had had electric light, wouldn't the GA have turned on a light in Capt Flint's study when looking for burglars after Dick's entry?
