I remember when I lived up that way (late 70s/early 80s) that even then some Lakeland comunities still did not have mains power - Wasdale Head springs to mind - it is therefore highly likely that isolated farmhouses in the 30s would not have been connected.

Whether they had a generator is another matter - but if they had I would have thought that Dick and Roger would have taken a keen interest in it, so again it seems unlikely. I mean, no TVs, no fridges, no washing machines... what would they have needed electricity for? All that fuss for few lights and a bit of heating - tha's nesh lad!

(Or is that Fylde dialect?)
