The question of the electric power supply to Beckfoot has not been resolved as there is mention that after Dick's burglary the house
was ablaze with lights.
Coming from a country(Australia) where remoteness is a way of life and not
an ÖDDITY, the lack of a generator set either petrol or water driven generator amazes
me as these were common in Australia before the war. Others have commented
that if there was an engine, Roger would have been interested, yet he never
took any interest in the motor of the Beckfoot motor launch, the engine in Rattletrap or the engine in the Rio steamer, he may have been too young or maybe he
expected a generator of some kind and ignored it or more likely was warned
not to touch such things. That could explain why he was so devoted to the engine in Wild Cat in PD and ML but PD was written before PM. Puzzling!
