While Tarboard was very busy discussing how to boil an egg, nearly 250
TARs young and old were having a wonderful time at Horning Farm just
outside Horning. A perfect spot for us all whether we were camping,
wanting to sail or just sit around enjoying the sun and chatter. This
lovely large field was the centre over the long weekend, dotted with
every sort of tent, a few campers and an enormous marquee. The Eastern
Region headed by Peter and Val Roche organised everything most
efficiently. A complete programme was arranged for the Juniors for the
first time. It was much appreciated by them and their parents who were
able to go off for a sail quite happily while their children were busily
engaged with their own thing. This set a new standard for future AGMs.
I am not sure how many Junior there were but they came from far and wide
- we even had a family from Alaska. So, it was a very relaxed few days
with even the weather being kind, though I gather the campers were
very cold at night.
Business wise everything went well too and TARS is now a Limited
Company by guarantee. Apart from making us legally more secure, TARS
members especially from abroad will be pleased to hear that very soon
Credit cards can be used to pay bills and subscriptions.
The Nancy Blackett Appeal has done wonderfully having collected around
£23000 at the last count. TARS was so impressed by this success that
members voted to donate £500 for maintenance if and when Nancy is finally
purchased. TARS will also think about making an annual contribution for
her maintenence in the future. For this great success Peter Willis must
be thanked and for the improved status of the Society we must thank
Malcolm and his team of experts for putting us on this secure footing.
Swallows & Amazons and all for ever !
