I seem to remember from my reading of Polybius many years ago that systems of government could easily transmutate from benficient to malevolent forms. Thus the "good" for of one-person rule is monarchy but it can turn into tyrrany, oligarechy into aristocracy, and democracy can turn into ochlocracy (mob rule)or anarchy (lawlessness).

I know nothing of the detail of Mr Roche's complaints, and as a member of TARS, I exercise my desire not to know anything. I defend his right to free speech (and to exercise it in a public forum of people who may be interested). However, I also support the right of private providers of media for expression of views to elect not to carry a particular view or to terminate the expression of view when it has been adequately ventilated in that forum.

Mr Roche should be allowed to direct attention of those Tarboard readers who want to find out what he has to say to locations (such as those suggested by Ian Edmondson or the link in his earlier contribution), but Ian is right to say that Tarboard is no longer a suitable forum for debate on this point.

In other words, Mr Roche should pipe down on this point and, if he feels that he must, continue his discussion of his grievances elsewhere. His continued use of Tarboard for this purpose seems to already have had the effect of reducing the number of contributions on matters relating to the life and works of Arthur Ransome, which I take to be the main purpose of this facility.
