Great list of points - hope these few observations from an antipodean might help.
1 - knobkerrie is also spelt knopkierie - from South Africa. Originated as a weapon from tribes there, likely to have first been the root base of a bush with the trunk as a handle.
8 - Try bacon and mushrooms on toast - delish. Just lightly fry in butter. Cholestrol galore!
9 - Flex is used as a general term for house wiring cord, also for the cord from appliances.
12 - Prune juice is actually sold as a juice for drinking here - most unappetising looking.
15 - Bent - any stiff grass like reeds or sedges. Usually refers to heath or unenclosed pastureland grass.
19 - castor sugar is finely granulated sugar - halfway between granulated and powdered or icing sugar. used to make pavlovas(meringue).
