Occurances of "JAW" in Ransome

This search includes only the five books whose stories take place at the lake.

SWALLOWDALE
Chapter 7 "Captain Flint: Ship's Carpenter "

The boom had jaws that fitted round the mast. Captain Flint
pulled them clear so that he could turn the boom round and
round. He turned it again and again, rolling up the sail round it
as he turned. As the sail was narrower at the top than at the
bottom this meant that there was a long bit of boom with sail
rolled round it, sticking out beyond the sail that they were going
to use. By the time the boom had been twisted and twisted until
so much of the sail had been rolled up that the boom was nearly
touching the lower end of the yard, the little three-cornered sail
that was left was a very small sail indeed.
"It'll take you to Rio," said Captain Flint. "We'll take a few
turns of rope just here at the boot of the leach, and a few turns
at the foot of the luff. The jaws round the mast'll stop it from
untwisting anyhow. It won't unroll, and you've got a sail snug
enough for a hurricane."

Other references in those five books:

In WH, regarding the MUMPS and its effect on Nancy's jaws, and the checking
of the jaws of the others to see if they had caught the illness.

In SA, there is discussion about the jaws of the pike that Roger caught,
referred to as his "shark."

And there are several references to the jawbone of a large fish that is
used to decorate the wall in Uncle Jim's study and at the houseboat.

Two times "her jaw dropped," meaning some degree of surprise.

Several times the word "jaw" is used as a verb, meaning "to talk."

In PM, there is a reference to walking into her jaws, meaning, being
discovered by the G.A.
