Outgate is a little hamlet a mile or so north of Hawkshead on the Ambleside road. It is close to Blelham Tarn, which is in the right map position to be Octopus Lagoon: though the stream from it is far too narrow to be navigated by anything bigger than an eel and, anyway, we are told the "real" O.L. was Allen Tarn. I don't know that the Outgate Conservatory makes a very convincing North Pole, other than the fact that (like most conservatories) it has a lot of glass. I don't think it's the right shape and, anyway, isn't very near any lake.
LakelandCAM has a lot of early morning pictures of Outgate, so I presume Tony lives there or nearby. I've never asked him.
