I always liked the Lake books best when I was younger (I still do in a way so I am probably biased). However, I have always found it best to read them in their groupings. I.e. Lakes books, Broads books, east coast books etc.
Therefore I'd recommend Pigeon Post next followed by Picts & Martyrs. If you would like a break from the Lakes books I'd start on Coot Club and then read Big Six.
