"Gormless" is still common usage. It means lacking sense, and is an obvious attribute of a lummock. The Disney character Goofy is a good example.
"New" as in Cut, College or even Forest, usually means the second one to be established. (The New Forest is a thousand years old.)
Ox Tongue (not beef tongue) is quite a delicacy, and widely available. In fact I bought some yesterday for sandwiches - before reading Ed's query.
