'The 1940's House' is a programme in which a modren family tries to re-create what it would have been like living in the war years. They have a house that has been made period perfect, replica clothes and a local shop that will sell them only items available at that time. They have been trying to live on rations, cook on an old stove, heat water with a boiler, blackout the house, react to simulated air raids. It is all very interesting, but when you are shown the wife in 2000, throwing away two thirds of her fridge in uneaten food, you know they chose a family that was garanteed to struggle.
I just hope that whoever fitted out the house remembered to put AR on the bookshelves.
