Dear Mike,
Judging by the way it smells and the way it burns, I think paraffin
and what we in Canada (and the Us) call kerosene are the same. Movies
in which an overturned kerosene (paraffin) lamp bursts in flame is
just Hollywood hyperbole. Notice how movie cars immediately burst into
flames after an accident.
