This is a true gem. It gives the clearest evidence that I have seen of the way Ransome had to graft to get his material for his journalistic work.
Perhaps it is a weakness in my own imagination, for despite reading Brogan's Life, AR's Autobiography, the two Russian books (1919 and Crisis) and Racundra, I somehow had difficulty seeing AR as a journalist - he somehow seemed too "nice". Perhaps the author of the SA series was too strong an influence on me...But this really makes the journalist live.
