The 1st edition of the OS (1805) shows a short (about quarter-mile) fairly broad creek roughly where Sinbad's is (perhaps a little to the south -- I don't have SW to hand). It ends in a field -- with or without prickly hedge I couldn't detect. By the 7th edition (1956) this is reduced to a tiny channel north of Naze Park, ending in houses and a road. Just checking MultiMap the 1:25000 shows a narrow, freshwater pond on that site (though this mysteriously disappears when you zoom up to 1:10000). It may not be in exactly the right place -- but when did that bother AR? -- but I would suggest there was a prototype for Sinbad's explorations.
When I get time to (a) print them from slides and (b) scan them and (c) get my daughter to teach me how to post them to a site, I will show some of the aerial photos of Secret Water I took back in 1988.
