Yes, Jesse Martin at 18 or 19 is the youngest solo (and non-stop) round-the-worlder. He started from Melbourne on 6th December 1998, sailing via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope.
Lesson: don’t believe everything you read in the papers.
Ellen MacArthur is 23 or 24; perhaps she is the youngest to compete in the Vendee Globe race? I suppose they both had birthdays en route, hence the uncertainty about their age. Re Ellen see:
