Since about 1940-something, in my family it's been with a soft g, as in Jibber. I grew up along the Stour, Wrabness, often sailed past A.R.'s house; around "Secret Water" territory, quite used to mastodons & mud, corroborees...those were the days. Anyone care to correspond? Mary
