Ed, Yes, AR is not your typical children's writer who wants to deal with issues of children growing up (or down or wherever). There is a certain stasis in his world which may the unique charm of his books. I think you have pointed to his lack of realism despite the oft written comments about the realism of his action scenes. But we all love it.
