Our little 1930's house has both a larder and a pantry, one each side of the kitchen. Larders always have a small window, high up, covered with perforated zinc, or some similar type of strong small mesh, to allow the air, but not the flies, in. They ought to have, but don't always have, a marble slab shelf for keeping things cool on. The window is kept open, for ventilation. In a small house, a pantry is little more than a walk-in cupboard.
